This wonderful coffee is grown by smallholder farmers in the community of Chuquenum in Guatemala’s Joyabaj, Quiche region. Between a majestic landscape of mountains, valleys and waterways, Joyabaj has a rich history and strong cultural ties to its ancient Mayan spiritual beliefs. Family members of the farmers bring their coffee to the Joyabaj Wet Mill (newly established in 2021 by the Federación Comercializadora de Café Especial de Guatemala) to be processed where it is depulped, fermented overnight and then dried on patios for 8 to 10 days. The result? A distinctive and flavorful cup that is well balanced between sweet dark cherry notes and dark chocolate. Pairs great with or without milk.
