Nestled along the eastern slopes of the Andes Mountains is the community of La Victoria in the San Martin region of Northern Peru. For generations this community has been cultivating coffee among the other fruits and vegetables they grow. In 2020 a local producers co-op Asociación de Productores Cerro Blanco (named after the white sand mountain that surrounds the area) was formed with the goal to implement sustainable practices and increase quality. The coop started with 10 families and today 300 families belong to the co-op, which are now all certified Organically grown and Fair Trade certified. This particular lot is decaffeinated by the Swiss Water Process method, which uses green coffee extract and carbon rather than chemicals. The result is a sweet Decaf coffee that has good body. We taste notes of blueberry pancakes, honey, and peaches.
